Program Overview
Collagen is a central structural protein in skin and connective tissue. Type III collagen contributes to elasticity, repair-oriented matrix architecture, and tissue resilience. Orion Biotech is developing recombinant human type III collagen as a defined biomaterial—not simply a peptide supplement, but an engineered protein designed around structural authenticity and manufacturing control.
The program emphasizes mammalian cell culture expression to support proper post-translational modifications, including proline/lysine hydroxylation and glycosylation patterns relevant to collagen maturation and triple-helix stability.
Expression & Manufacturing
Production is oriented toward CHO and broader mammalian cell expression systems. Compared with prokaryotic expression, this route is designed to better approximate human collagen biosynthesis and to support an endotoxin-controlled or endotoxin-free manufacturing direction as processes mature.
Quality attributes under development include sequence confirmation, triple-helix characterization, purity profiling, endotoxin control, and batch consistency—foundational requirements for dermatology, wound-care, and future medical-device pathways.
Potential Applications
The platform may support premium skincare and barrier-oriented formulations, wound and post-procedure care materials, and longer-term regenerative medicine applications where structural collagen biomaterials are required.
Application boundaries are defined by regulatory category. Cosmetic, medical-device, and injectable routes each require distinct evidence packages. Orion Biotech communicates within appropriate claim limits for each development stage.
